Hurricane Irma caused flooding and displaced families in northern DR; however, hurricane Maria brought dramatically more rainfall that caused 9 rivers, 1 canal, and 1 dam to overflow and flood whole neighborhoods, displacing 15,000 people. Maria completely destroyed 128 homes, flooded out 3,921 homes, and caused substantial flooding damage to an additional 766 homes. Thousands of families are unable to return home.
YWAM Santo Domingo is located in the southern part of the island and our mission center did not suffer damage; however, we have gathered food, mattresses, clothes, and aid supplies to take two truckloads of donations to towns in the north like El Seibo (where the water rose and covered many 2-story buildings even on high ground, far from the riverbank).
We are partnering with our pastor friends in local churches who are cooking for hundreds of people daily and distributing donations. You can send food and supplies to Maria flood victims by donating online using the button below
